I prefer "Shipping Out To Boston", but in Shipping Out to Detroit doesn't have the same ring to it.

Initially, I agreed with Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild, but when I looked at the 2004 draft, if either of those picks are top 2, Toronto rapes this deal with unbelievable zeal. If both are top 8 picks, it's a win for Toronto, but a close-enough-to-be-fair win. If the picks are not top 8, Detroit rapes this deal. And everything I said above is pretty much 100% of the assumed risk with any draft pick trade, is it not? (Like, the trades Minnesota Wild cited had protection clauses in them, or were weaker drafts/selections.)

Bro I had a better offer that you rejected

To Quebec Patrick Marleau 88 F 19 YR To Boston Rob Niedermayer 82 F 11 YR Andrew Ference 81 D 16 YR COL 2002 1st (11th OV) Like this trade. We know these overalls, we know who the pick is, etc. (It was an 84 forward, or an 85 goalie - not good value for Marleau) And that is NOT comparable to this trade where these picks could technically become Evgeni Malkin AND Alex Ovechkin. The Buffalo-Philly trade probably could have gone through, in my opinion, but Philly walked away from that, it was not formally rejected, so it's moot.

Bro I had a better offer that you rejected This I do not doubt, and this is the problem that comes from people having ideas about where retro players "belong" or where their "home" is, and giving them "hometown discounts". I have no real stance on any of these issues, just saying. I get both sides - the desire to re-create history vs. the desire to re-write it.

To quote Toronto:
"So basically 1 90+ player for a series of picks that will not amount to the same value?"

I'm not really expecting these picks to be high, at least not a 94 with a decade left in YR. If people think I'm winning the deal, I can definitely protect the pick, but because of Wings draft pick situation it can get messy fast.
Thoughts on this condition?
"If either pick ends up being a top 2 pick, the other pick is returned to Detroit, and a player determined of fair value is sent as compensation for Leafs landing Ovechkin/Crosby."
OR
"If either pick ends up being top 2 pick, the Wings have the option of returning Lidstrom to the Leafs in exchange for the top 2 pick."
Cause I would gladly do either of those. The point of my trades was to make other teams better, while also giving me some other assets to continue to play with. We specifically didn't negotiate 03 picks into the deal for that reason. Last thing I want to do is have anyone assume I am trying to win a trade.
Because we all know I will lose the fuck out of a deal if I want to.
