Ok, I don't have the time to do this, but when Detroit said he'd love to run the Stars, imagine that I posted a picture of the Dallas Stars' cup winning team, and then put red lines next to every single player and wrote "traded for something worse" next to every single one of them. You and I both expect me to photoshop this now, don't we.

Someone should go rogue and photoshop Brett Hull NOT in the crease and see if we can re-write history again.

Ok heres my legit proposal for expansion.
Bring in San Jose, Ottawa, Tampa, Anaheim, and Colorado (the real next 5 expansion teams, but with Colorado instead of Florida, cause who cares about the Panthers). This brings us to an even 26 teams. Bring in San Jose, then Ottawa/Tampa, then Colorado/Anaheim.
Bring in San Jose before the 1996 entry draft. This gives us time to make trades to ready our teams for expansion. For the '96 expansion, teams can protect 14 players and 2 goalies. San Jose picks one player from each team, and can make trades with teams who want to protect players (eg. Pittsburgh can trade them a 1st to take a minor leaguer, instead of losing one of their better players). San Jose is given the highest odds in the lottery, but isn't guaranteed the 1st overall pick (but at least 2nd).
The following offseason (before the '97 draft), bring in Ottawa and Tampa. Teams can protect 12 players and 1 goalie. Ottawa and Tampa have the highest odds at the 1st overall pick, and are guaranteed to pick at least 2/3. If neither of those teams win the lottery, they do a coin flip for the 2nd/3rd pick order.
Two seasons later (before the '99 draft), bring in Anaheim and Colorado with the same expansion draft rules as the '97 expansion draft.
Protection lists get submitted ahead of time. San Jose's GM just has to submit their list. OTT/TB and COL/ANA would have to do it live, but could coordinate a time to do it between the two of them.
Realignment would have to be done after the '99 expansion, and there are a few fun ways we could go about doing it, but the traditional East-West would probably be the easiest way to go about it. It is complicated slightly by Quebec not relocating, but we can deal with that at a later time. In the mean time, San Jose can go in the Smythe division, Ottawa to the Norris, and Tampa to the Wales, which would give each division an even 6 teams.

Very cool. And you forgot the part where you have 5 friends that are excited to be just as active as you are to join the site and really motivate us to want to expand to maintain that activity! So exciting! Are the downsides of a few GMs having two teams greater than the upside (it would be a hell of a lot of fun) of this proposal? I don't see how this would do anything other than increase activity overall?

Id personally love to run a second team again. It's a ton of fun.

I get that, but you guys having second teams versus my team losing players that I like on my 1 team doesn't really do a whole lot for me.
I agree that expansion can be exciting and interesting, but it's also a LOT of work, and then typically over time sim sites start dwindling from the original peeps and now we're potentially running 2-3 teams each. Or we all have just awesome stacked teams in a league of 21.
Otherwise, if we expanded, and people started to leave, do we fold franchises?

I don't like any plan that involves me staying in Quebec. These people want to kill me after moving their hometown hero in Lemieux.
