NHL90 ADJUSTMENTS

After some lengthy discussions, and reviewing 1800 ratings, we will be implementing some changes for SEASON 5 and moving forward.

BEGINNING IN SEASON 3

Here are 3 things that are changing IMMEDIATELY:

1. RATINGS

Based on what is coming over the next 30 seasons, the following two players have had their ratings adjusted:

2. FREE AGENCY

Free Agency will now be conducted in 3 Waves.

WAVE 1

- All free agents are posted and everyone can post bids.
- Wave 1 will close as a whole announcing who wins what players and with what bid.
- Winning Bids will be determined by player overall, years remaining, and team standings. Teams can still bid open claims, but a player bid will still outclass an open claim.
- Wave 1 will close at the end of Pre-Season.

WAVE 2

- Same as Wave 1, except now it will be a trickle-down of all players used to win players in Wave 1.
- Wave 2 will close at the end of October.

WAVE 3

- Organized chaos. You can bid on a player with a player or an open claim, from the moment Wave 3 opens to the Trade Deadline.
- Players will close at random, based on the need to sim and continue the season.
- Wave 3 will run from the end of Wave 2 all the way to Trade Deadline.

BEGINNING IN SEASON 5

For Clarification: Season 5 = 1994-95 NHL Season.

1. PLAYOFFS

We will no longer be going with the Top 4 in each division.

Staring in SEASON 5, we will have the 1st Place in each division be slotted #1 and #2 and then teams ranked 3rd to 8th in the Conference will make the playoffs. Each playoff round is determined by highest point standings.

2. LOTTERY DRAFT

We will be introducing the Lottery Pick beginning SEASON 5. All teams that have NOT made the playoffs (so bottom 5) will participate. Only the top pick will be up for grabs. After that all teams will slot in 2-5.

The Stanley Cup Champions will have the final pick of the first round. Round 2 will be sorted by final standings: 1-21.

Guys that were frequently traded or in a significant trade essentially were not adjusted unless another player in that trade was also getting an adjustment. So no one got screwed. There's maybe 2 or 3 other people on the site we would've adjusted but it would not go well based on those trades, so they are as they are, and we are human and imperfect, and we move forward. We will do our best to correct those when we hit Era 2 in like 8 years.

wow some guys really got high and did these wow. Tony Amonte a 90 that sets up lots of guys to be 90's now also. Lots of raises coming soon. Some teams really got a boost and area new team just like that. Tony Amonte only once had a 1 point per game average in season and never did he ever show up and play worth a damn in the playoffs , and that qualifies somebody to be a 90??

Alright, here's the deal peeps. You can't play your star players on fourth line. You can't sit your star players. You can't actively sit your better players. If you don't want them on your team, trade them. We're not going to allow actively tanking. We don't have guys that can walk from expiring contracts or demand to be traded. The whole point of this site is to enjoy the 90s, not bury them because you might get Matt Cullen instead of Matt Cooke.

In all honestly, I'd fix the lottery system then. It was broken then and shouldn't be replicated for the 'authenticity of it.'

In terms of going for the cup/getting a good pick, the system is clearly flawed to allow those 7/8 seeded teams to go for a cup and still tank along the way. I've been trying to finish 2nd last in my division the past two seasons (one of which I went to the finals and walked away with Kovalev 89).

And at what stage do we have control over our own lines with this? If I want to play my 8th best F on my 4th, is that a problem?


I don't want to sound like a complainer, but I think 1991 rules were flawed and were fixed for a reason, including the divisions. I think we add a team to each to make them even and follow the modern lottery rules. This can be implemented after this season for a heads up, but the tanking teams are just playing the system for what it is.

Which is why we aren't allowing tanking.

It also blew my mind you've only played Hawerchuk for like 60 games for the first two seasons combined, and that hurts the whole point of the site.

I wanted to introduce the lottery as early as this season, but we discussed off site that it was best to give teams the heads up with notice and going with all the changes we wanted when it officially changed in real life.

The point of having a larger roster max is to allow people to float in some bottom 3-6 forwards, 5/6d, back up goaltenders etc. because there's a lot of names to enjoy. It's not to flood your team with bottom-dwelling players and bench or 4th line your star players or rather just better players in general.

I think a bit of logic solves this. If you were a coach and you had Wayne Gretzky, and you benched him, LOGICALLY, he would not play for you anymore. The whole reason we have to make rules about tanking is because your players are slaves you own.

You pay nothing for them, and you give nothing to keep them.

This has nothing to do with lottery or draft rules. Play your stars so they want to play for you, and not just leave to play for a contender. Like they would have done in real life.

As a manager, the logical thing to do is improve your team. If the system allows you to maximize your pick while still getting a fair shot to compete for the cup as the other 15 teams, it makes sense. Similar to tanking, it sure isn’t ethical, but now the leafs have marner/Matthews

This is all on the system in place. If you want them to leave, make it a cap league and they’ll sure as hell leave. If we add downgrade, they sure as hell will go down if they don’t play.

But why would I want to put something in place to make guys I loved in the 90s shitty just because you want to cheat the system?
