So that 2015 pick won't be seen until (real life time) a year and a half? Damn.

It's also strange to call this trade a site breaking deal when we just saw 2 guys get dealt for 6 first round picks, so...?

In real life, teams trade draft picks a couple years in advance because you can only scout people so young. Here, we have the benefit of scouting people 20 years before they come in, so we know 2015 is the McDavid draft etc, even though IRL he was not even born at this time, thus unscoutable. It makes for strange, unrealistic trades, but in its spirit, its reasonably realistic, since acquiring picks is all about scout-able foresight This is kind of an interesting point too. I feel that in leagues like this trading picks that far in the future is kind of a bad move (normally). But since we know exactly who will exist and how deep those drafts are this isn't really an issue. The only other issue would be a team making these moves, either winning or losing with that team, then leaving the site when their team is garbage and they have no picks. This obviously cannot happen with Edmonton Oilers so that isn't an issue either. For Detroit though this is really interesting. They embrace the full rebuild ensuring they will have high picks (once they get past the years they don't have picks) and be able to rebuild their team with high end talent. Then once they are good and making playoff runs, they will have picks in years where Edmonton could potentially be REALLY BAD. Getting more top end talent making them a behemoth. Worst case Edmonton finds a way to stay good throughout Detroit has extra trade bait assets for become EVEN BETTER. It should absolutely be analyzed hard but the idea is pretty sweet and entertaining.

The 2009 1st was then traded to the Capitals/Ducks. When we hit the draft this year, we'll see what happens with this pick, but there might be a compensation traded required here to fix a potential broken clause. This is in the event this pick is the 1st selection basically, as I would be surprised anyone takes Malkin over Ovechkin. Edmonton OilersDetroit Red Wings

Not a single pick has been resolved yet and every single one of those players are now retired. I wouldn't call it a bust yet lol
