I can consciously remember watching the Finals of the Canucks/Rangers Stanley Cup. That is my earliest memory in my brain of watching a hockey game. I did so watching it in my parents bedroom on their like 17" television. I fell in love with Pavel Bure, and guys like Cliff Ronning, Kirk McLean, etc. and then the unspeakable thing happened: Vancouver lost lol
The next year, for Christmas, my parents surprised me with an autographed Pavel Bure jersey with the flying skate logo, and number 96 on the back - the rightful number, I might add. It is still, to this day, one of the greatest Christmases I've ever experienced, and happened when hockey players and legends of the game were also still magical in my heart.

That was a good Canuckleheads team. The Gelinas-Linden line was my favorite. It didn't matter who you put with them, they were awesome together. I have a black flying skate jersey of Gelinas myself.
I think everyone knows by now my favorite player was Ryan Smyth, though that guy Gretzky was pretty good too. 😜 lol

Any player you thought was insanely overrated? I feel like people didn't appreciate all that Patrik Elias did for the Devils - a team that barely scored and that guy was insane.

100% Sundin for me. I remember watching him when I was three and seeing the C on his jersey caught my eye. Ever since that point I've always loved him. Cried when he went to Vancouver and cried when he retired lmao.

Smyth was a high underrated player. He was extremely smart, and his hockey sense was off the charts in terms of being in the right place at the right time. He, and guys like Holmstrom, revolutionalized the game at that time with their antics in front of the net. There were very few guys at that time that would actually practice their screen and deflections, now lots of guys do it. Highlights for me were: 1) That top line comprised of him, Doug Weight & Bill Guerin. They were dynamic together and perfect for that team at that time. 2) The '06 playoff run as a whole, but taking a Pronger clearing attempt off the face, getting patched up, then coming back to the game and setting up the winning goal was pretty special. 3) His first game after being traded to Long Island, he got pushed back into the net, knocking it off a bit. The refs didn't catch it, so he just put it back on with one hand and kept playing. 😂😂 4) His retirement game in Edmonton. They tried so hard to get him that one powerplay point to pass Glenn Anderson on the all-time Oilers list. They had him cherry picking at the Canucks blue line for the breakout passes to get it into the zone. lol I also appreciated the class shown by the Canucks, lead by the Sedins, to all come back out, after leaving the ice, to congratulate him.

I've always known Steve Yzerman growing up, so he's always been a favorite of mine, and my dads. As of right now... well... it's better left unsaid I suppose.

Zemgus Girgensons I'm Latvian on my mom's side, so I've always loved Latvian NHLers. Before Girgs came into the league I was following Kaspars Daugavins' career, and I would always try to get Ozolinsh, Skrastins (RIP), Irbe, and Oskars Bartulis in sim leagues. Then I heard about this Latvian kid who came over to play in the USHL when he was 15 (and he's only a few months older than I am), and he seemed like he was going to be relatively good. So I sort of kept an eye on his career. Fast forward to the 2012 NHL draft, and he goes 14th overall to Buffalo. The highest drafted Latvian ever. I was a little disappointed because I was hoping he'd fall to the Sens at 15 (they got Ceci instead, that worked out...) In 2013/14, Zemgus Girgensons scores the first goal of the season for the Sabres, in his first NHL game. He scores the first goal of the season for the Sabres the following year too. 2015, Zemgus Girgensons runs away with the voting in the All Star Game thanks to a campaign in Latvia to vote him in. Latvian rapper Olas writes the song "Zemgus Girgensons", which has been stuck in my head ever since. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYSRbeYswGQAt this point he's a pretty dusty 4th liner, but to me, the guys a fucking legend.

Felix Potvin.
Pretty much synonymous with the paddle-down style, which I loved. Forces people to shoot for your glove, and if you are fast (as he was, for at time) you set yourself up for epic glove saves.
I remember watching the game vs. Philly, when Hextall came down to fight Potvin. I was like, "shit, my boy's gonna get destroyed!" Then remember being completely blown away seeing Felix could throw down like a motherfucker.
Good times.

For me it was and is Mike Bossy. Watching him play and come down the wing and blow shots by goalies was amazing. I got to have the luck of meeting him when I coached a woman's hockey team at a tournament in MontreaL. We sat down and had a few beers and talked hockey and at the end of that day I was even more impressed after picking his brain as much as I could. Another player that I really respected and was very underrated was Ron Francis. He was an amazing player and did everything he did without any noise. That is the one jersey I would love to have. A green Hartford Whalers Ron Francis #10 jersey.
