Almost half the Bolts/Sens game was on special teams. Lightning scored a powerplay goal on 5 chances, Sens buried 2 on 8. First period, Sens strike first, then even it up to close out the frame. Second period, Sens strike first again. Third is traded back and forth all the way to the final 90 seconds, when Foligno’s back breaker looked to be a game winner until Fedorov’s dying seconds heroics lifted the Bolts to the overtime frame. There, Kaberle took a feed from Malone to seal game 1 for Tampa Bay. Final shots were 42-40 for the Senators.

We are spoiled with back to back overtime games to open the Conference Finals. Wolski struck first for the Oilers. The second period was a wild frame with scrums, hack and whacks and some after the whistle nonsense. In the third, Doan evened it up in the final five minutes. 15 seconds later, Havlat pushes the Oilers forward, and with less than 2 minutes to go, Pronger tied it up for the Jets. Shortly into overtime, where the Jets started it with 3 big rushes, Liles snuck out and took a feed from Heatley to take game 1 and erase home ice advantage.
