Tightly contested game one for the Rangers and Lightning. Shots were 27-22 for the Bolts, both teams scored a powerplay goal, but the second period is really where the wheels came off for the Rangers. Strong of them to come back with a pair of goals in the third to show signs of life, but Kaberle's 3 point night, and 8 players registering 2 points for Tampa really capped this one off.

Toronto tried to have life, but just couldn't get anything going. They ended the game with a 13-3 shot period over the Sens and still didn't break Lalime's shutout. Sens outshot Toronto 38-26, and Dadonov's middle pair of goals was the icing on the cake for the series opener.

Game 1 of the Jets and Avalanche came as advertised and had a bit of everything. A fight between Perry and Tkachuk to start the game. 3 goals for the Jets, a 5-2 second period for the Avalanche to tie it up. The Koivu brothers combining for 3 goals and 3 assists. 12 total powerplays in the game and not a single powerplay marker to show for it for either team. And a lucky break for Toews to start overtime closed it out on a single shot. Final shots were 32-31 for the Jets, and that 1 single shot was what really mattered.

The Wings scored 2 quick goals and then celebrated and then got their asses handed to them. Oilers outshot the Wings 40 to 31, and Heatley's three assists with Forsberg's pair of goals were the top honors of the night. The moral of the story is... never trust Scott Gomez.
