To Brendan Shanahan 92 F 1 YR To Bobby Holik 87 F 1 YR 2017 1st 2011 2nd 2011 2nd Does anyone care? Rangers (still in a bit of a build) get a few draft picks to downgrade from a retiring forward to another retiring forward and the Bolts get an upgrade for their big push. Thoughts? Concerns? Dreams? Anger issues?

I get why Tampa would do this. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why Rangers would do it.
AS RANGERS, maybe explain to me the reasoning behind this deal being a win for you?

Sure thing.
The Rangers, while currently winning, aren’t quite where they want to be yet. They’re still looking for deals that give them some longer term value. Shanahan is phenomenal, but with him retiring at the end of the year, they want some sort of value for him. Yes, Holik is also retiring, but he can be shopped and flipped yet. The Rangers pick up a trio of draft picks to help stick the cupboards for either players or future deals.
Basically, New York is in flux. This off-season will probably see more Rangers trades of players with fewer years. It’s a balancing act for this team but more draft picks are always a plus for a team still looking to grow

Might it not be at the absolute minimum more in their best interest to go after Andy McDonald, for example, giving them 4+ seasons to shop the guy for return, instead of just a couple days for a trade deadline? The Tampa pick won't help them for more than half a decade, so its useless for any sort of "next-level" or rebuild, and the 2nd round picks are, what, 82s? 81s? For a playoff team, this almost feels like it would make more sense gambling on Shanahan and seeing what upsets they could pull in the playoffs, instead of downgrading for depth that doesn't look like it really moves them forward at all. I donno, Maybe the issue is these two teams look like they should both be after almost the same thing. They both have a core of retiring Superstars who only have a couple years left in them, neither have particularly strong B-Team players to swap for 90+ low-YR "rentals", and they are division rivals. Seems like almost any deal worked out would border on a conflict of interest, since I'm not sure what kind of deal you can put together with these 2 teams where they both move forward with what seem to be their own individual goals. My questions aren't really a reject, so if Toronto Maple Leafs doesn't care and wants to send it through, I have seen worse here. But I just have a hard time imagining this trade coming up if both teams were run by separate GMs (that said...I'm not going to pretend I understand GMs on this site at all at this stage, so...yeah. Maybe I'm way off base and 22 other people will climb up my ass telling me I'm a damned fool. Who knows).

If I’m being honest I don’t expect the Rangers to use that pick. I’m expect to have traded it down the road for a piece i can use before that. It’s another piece in the arsenal for the Rangers moving forward. The rangers aren’t completely moving forward yet - there’s still a little bit of building to do. If I have to revamp this it is what it is - I’ll figure it out

Yknow what - reject this. I’ll revamp this to make it more fair all the way around
