Overalls show how good a player is offensively I believe. Doesn't take into account their defensive play. Burns is great offensively but not good defensively. When Erik Karlsson comes into the league he'll probably be like a 92 or 93 but he's a terrible player in his own end despite being a defenseman.

It's kind of like this. On ManMMA, if you upgrade someone's punching, they are more likely to punch. If you upgrade takedowns, they are more likely to attempt a takedown. Similar concept. Except when applying it to offensive abilities, the player's overalls are higher, hence our relationship to our ratings NOT being like EA hockey games. But being more of the statistical output of a player.

Case in point, arguably the best 2-way players in the league have been guys rated around 84-87, it's a good average basis of offense to defense but our top producers are almost always Selanne lol who is a 94.

It is by no means at all a perfect system, but I think it's still fun and different.

Is there any world where we try an era with EA style overalls? I'd like to see a list of the players defensive overall wise, because I must have missed when we said Defense overalls are only offensive based, I've been stacking my defense thinking we were going to be better defensively, and we've just been garbage.

Wait, so how can I tell how good a player is defensively? In my opinion +/- is a broken stat that tells me nothing defensively.

Irl is the best way to tell which defenseman were actually good at defense. Wings, your problem is you have 4 offensive defenseman. Lidstrom is the best dman in the game offensively and was great in his own zone so he's not the issue. Seabrook was a great 2 way defenseman as well. Burns can't play defense if his life depended on it, Zidlicky wasn't the best in his own end, Schneider is the same as Zidlicky and Campbell was a pure offensive defenseman.
