To clarify - if I don’t own my 2005 pick due to my Colorado trade Buffalo keeps his. Accepted to add depth to my team

You're trading Gaborik for 5 years of a comparable player and giving up 10 years for a measly upgrade on D and a second round pick?

I just don't see the value of pulling the trigger on this trade for the Rangers privately, versus creating a market for Gaborik. I know it's a secondary open team, but look at what we just had go down for Corey Perry. Bidding wars can be helpful, especially to newer members. This trade is pretty weak for Gaborik's longevity as a top line player.

I fully intend to compete within the years these players are around - giving me an upgrade on D moving forward. I thought it would give me a boost while staying about where I’m at forward

I’ll just cut to the chase we both feel it’s not enough.

Mostly, it's just a strange deal - to sacrifice a decade of a player for 1 overall and an 82 defenceman. I get and see the 82 would be a second liner, but 10 years of a very comparable player is confusing. My confusion mostly, I suppose, is Rangers did not mention anything about liking Turgeon, just that he wanted to compete now, not later. Market dictates value, and I don't pretend to have a concrete understanding of this market, but I would bet you could quite easily find someone willing to give you that 89 5 yr with at least 2 82 Ds, or an 83D, or longer YRs, or just...anything. I just see a lot of paths to beating this deal, if your interest is just overalls and not names.

I’m gonna put this under the category of “still learning values” and revisit this with Buffalo
