OH, this is not okay. This is absolutely Toronto getting raped (well, somewhat raped - the Messier trade is exponentially worse). But as admins we felt Toronto needed broken up, and he has been after my Colorado line for many seasons. I am in talks already to try to pay forward the charity, as I wasn't necessarily dying to add Forsberg+Sakic to my team as much as I felt he needed to lose them (or some of his 3rd line 90+ overall players). But those talks are ongoing, so we will see what happens.

Mike made fair (fair enough at least) trades to get his team where it is today, I don't see anybody complaining about it and giving players away for essentially free ruins the league.

1) As I said above, Leafs was after my Colorado Trio for a long time. We both appreciate them, as a trio. So we worked out a trade for them as a trio. I totally could trade ONE for a defenceman, but we come back to that word again...TRIO. So, this solved that.

2) Handouts ruin the league. (glances at Torontos roster with 90-overall players on his 4th line). Oh.

3) Handouts ruin the league (glances over everything Boston has done since joining. Notices few, if any Joubran comments). Oh.

4) Handouts ruin the league (glances over his inbox, looking at offers from shit teams that would immediately benefit from this deal). Oh.

5) Handouts ruin the league (glances over real life NHL revenue since the Hall for Larsson trade). Oh.

I traded a perennial vezina winning/competing goaltender for two first round picks right before that team got the right pieces and went on a 10 season tear.

I was ripped to shreds. Later gave up a free player to “make up for it.” Lets not pretend i wasnt raked over the coals and then raked again.

Since Joubran threatened to quit if this went through, I reject this trade (sorry to the 3-4 people I was offering these guys to who desperately needed 90-overall players for their depth draft picks).


Now, if no one could threaten to quit over me rejecting this trade, that would be great.


(side note - why is it always the trades I don't REALLY care about that stir up drama? Like...I legitimately don't care about Sakic/Forsberg right now. I wanted Vincent Damphouse without stacking Toronto for the next 14 years to get him! WHY?!?)

In real life we hav managers truing to have gud relationships to make sweetener deals at dealines but we r criticizing leafs for apreading wealth after what 6 cup runs?

A little more serious than my "I'm going to be a dick just to be a dick" reply:

Colorado Avalanche's point about the draft picks is valid, and is probably most of the reason I am pulling out of this trade. It's still a gamble any time you acquire picks, since you have no idea what deal someone can work out, but still. I get it. That said, I don't think teams who have NJ's real life draft picks should be able to overrule their Hall for Larson trade, but it's a game, I'm an admin, and I don't care that much about this trade/my team to ruin someone else's long-term experience.

Importantly, though this is the second time we have undone a ruling after someone threatened to quit, that's not a thing - 90% of the time, we will just say goodbye. We've designed the league to function with as few as 6 members in the absolute worst case scenario, if it ever came to that, so we don't need or want people here who are not having fun. Fun will be had, whether its 30 people, or 6.

That said...in this case, I legitimately don't care about the return, and I'm sure we can work something else out if mike still wants his trio.

I formally withdraw my accept of this trade.

I'm not shitting on your or the site, donating players ruins the fun of the site and diminishes the integrity of it which I know you and Justin both worked hard on maintaining over the last 12 seasons. There's no point in ruining that for two ridiculous trades.
