WINS SERIES 4-0
Game Summary:
Montreal held their own for 20 minutes, after that the floodgates were opened. The Pens depth is just too much to handle for the rebuilding Canadiens. 4 Different goal scorers, assists spread out from top to bottom, the Habs basically had no chance in this one. Pens outshot the Habs 40-21. Only Corson, Rucinsky and Daneyko didn't register a point for the Pens, but those three still had a collective 4 shots on net. On the flip side, Michael Ryder was a bright spot for the Habs and deserves his praise for being a leader on a team that wasn't ready to compete.

Game Summary:
This was a competitive game until the Leafs secured an insurance marker midway through the third to put the game out of reach. Some minor infractions put the Leafs into some difficult situations, but their special teams kept the Capitals off the score sheet (0/4 on the PP), and Lidstrom, of all people, scored a shorthanded goal on a break-up rush toward the end of the first period. The Capitals didn't let up the pressure, outshooting the Leafs 23-13 for the final 40 minutes, but Lidstrom's 2 goal effort and Hasek coming up big when the game was on the line is what held it together for Toronto as they head back home for Game 5.

Game Summary:
Just when it looked like the Flyers were getting their wits about them, the Devils emerged with another brilliant effort from Geoff Sanderson and company. The Flyers had command of the game in the first 20, with a couple of powerplays, and a 3-1 lead, but it might be their inability to capitalize on the hooking calls against the Devils that played its part in their downfall in this one. The Devils came out flying in the second, burying 2 goals in exactly a minute, and adding 2 more before the Flyers would bite back with a powerplay marker from Roenick. Sanderson's insurance marker ended up being the game winner.

Game Summary:
I feel bad beating up on the Bruins... but the Whalers don't. Another heartbreaking start had the game over before we even hit the midway point of the first period. Boston didn't have anything to slow the Whalers down. Not even an intimidating Probert could do much, despite being an unlikely goalscorer in the second period. It should be noted that in a bad series, Valeri Bure still ended as a positive plus/minus player. Brad Boyes capped off the night with 3 points, and Alfredsson casually earned the second start with his 2 goal effort to close out the series. We'll see if the Whalers can carry that momentum further.

Game Summary:
The closest it would get was 4-2. The Wild weren't ready for it this season, despite the big addition of Ron Francis, the depth just wasn't there to really give the Blues a difficult time. But that can be said of most teams annually. The Reign of Terror, as it's been dubbed, continues to march on in these playoffs with an opening round sweep. Blues outshot the Wild 42-17 in this game. Nik Antropov takes first star with his pair of goals and the Blues wait out the competition for round 2.
