Game Summary:

Penguins came out flying in this one, outshooting the Habs 35 to 22 in the first 2 periods and put themselves in a healthy spot up 7-3 at the end of the second period. A late push by the Habs got the game close, but that 4 goal cushion really sealed the Habs fate, and just as they were ready to pull the goalie, Wade Redden got called for an arguable holding call to shut the door closed in Game 1.

Game Summary:

This is not the game the Flyers thought they were going to get into. The Devils were saints, not taking a single penalty while the Flyers were hit with 12 minutes of penalties through the first 40 minutes of play. That's a difficult disadvantage to overcome, and it led them into a 5-2 start for the Deviles heading into the third. The disappointing side of things for the Devils is that they only managed to capitalize on 1 opportunity. If the Flyers can't stay out of the box, or the Devils can't improve their specialty teams, this could be the tale of the series. Nedved takes first star honors for his 3 point night.

Game Summary:

This was an ugly game all around for the Bruins. They were outshot 25 to 16, couldn't manage more than 7 shots in a period, and struggled to defend the Whalers top six. Brad Boyes earned top stars with his 3 point night, Sarich and visnovsky chipped in a combined 6 points each. But most surprising was the combined -15 effort of Marleau, Nylander and Pyatt for the Bruins. A very ugly showing for Boston. Budaj let in all 8 goals and ended the game with a 0.667SV%.

Game Summary:

It was good for the Wild until it wasn't, and then it got wild. Minnesota came out flying, 6 shots in the opening 10 minutes, a goal for their effort, but then the Blues finished the period up 13-7 in shots, Recchi earned a powerplay marker in a hack and whack period with both teams jostling for position, and a tie going into period number 2. Queue Sergei Berezin. 2 goals in quick order, and Robert Svehla takes minor penalty, but Lecavalier rushes to get his team within 1 to close out the second period. That's as close as it would get. The Blues hammered the Wild 11-2 in shots in the third period, and the Wild went quietly into the night with a 4 goal final to shut the door in Game 1.

Game Summary:

What more could you ask for after 25 minutes from the Flames? Up 3-0, all lines flying, outshooting the Avs 28-16 in the first 40... oh, a full 60 minute effort could be asked for, because after that, Calgary went down in flames (pun intended). Colorado buried 3 goals in ten minutes to tie it up. Nilson and Odjick added 2 more in the third to win Game 1. Martin Lapointe's 3 assists earned him top star. If the Flames want to avoid the Cinderella story, they are going to have to commit to their offensive game.

Game Summary:

This is a crazy game. 2-0 Jets, 2-2, then 3-2 Jets, then 5-4 Hawks. That's 1 period. By the end of the 2nd it was 8-5 Hawks. The teams traded goals back and forth until it ended at 11-7, 18 goals scored between the pair of teams, and not a single fight in the process. Mike Ricci's 4 apples outlasted Tkachuk's 3 point night. This was a barn burner, pure and simple. Both teams showed they can score. Neither team showed they could defend anything at all.

Anaheim had the game practically won before the Kings even laced up their boots. 4 goals in the first two periods would do that. But so would taking 5 straight minor penalties for the Kings. They looked like they were actively trying to lose. Niedermayer took first star for his 3 point night. The only player that looked like they even gave any damn at all was Dwayne Roloson, who quite literally gave his damn so hard that he was trying to stop the damn from flooding.
