Jose Theodore steals the first star of the game with a shutout in the playoffs. The Flyers opened the first period with a dominating 20-6 shot effort, but Theodore shut the door. A no-penalty game really helped the Habs stay on their feet and overcome the disastrous start, then Morrison broke the door open with the opening goal midway through the 2nd and the ice slanted for the rest of the game, with the Habs outshooting the Flyers in the final 40. A strong effort start from Montreal's continued Cinderella story.

Washington kept this competitive until midway through the second, after that the Pens took the ball and ran with it. At 4-2, the game seemed to be within reach, but Audette closed the door shut at the end of the 2nd, and Corson solidified it with an early third period goal. Konowalchuk tried to get his team back into it after a dust up with Claude Lemieux, but Patrick Roy kept the game shut down with only 3 goals against in the rout.

Kirk Muller put the team on his shoulders for this one and took home the 1st star of the game with his 3 point night. Irbe continues to be an anomaly by holding on for a 5-3 victory in game 1, but Ziggy Palffy proved to be a significant distraction for the Blues, as he chipped in a goal and an assist to open the scoring. If the Wild can get some consistency, this could be a long series.

This game got rough at the end. 9 seconds left in the game and Tony Lydman goes absolutely balistic on Chris Pronger. Some strong words shared and it leads to Lydman doing a two-handed slash on Pronger to be ejected. Given the state of the DOPS, he probably got a fine. Hawks take game 1. Let's see if it stays nasty!
