Welcome to N90!
1. Sign-Up
Details upcoming.
2. Roster Trimming
Every pre-season, you'll need to make some decisions. Roster limit now set at 40. That means you will have to make some cuts to your default roster to make this limit. Once a player is cut, they are sent to free agency.
IF you choose NOT to cut a player, your team cannot participate in free agency. So, you CAN keep a roster of 40+ players, but you won't be able to do much else.
3. Free Agency
If you see someone you want on Free Agency you may attempt to acquire them. If you are at your roster limit, you must make a swap for the new player. If you have roster space available, you can simply post your claim and sign the free agent.
Please Check out the How Free Agency Works thread for information on how to bid and win.
4. Pre-Season
After your rosters are set, your lines are posted, and your squad is prepped, pre-season happens. All teams must be Roster Compliant by the end of pre-season. That is when the first round of Free Agency closes. Exciting!
5. Regular Season
After all the trials and tribulations of a long and grueling pre-season, the actual fun begins, and regular season gets underway. Schedules for NHL and CHL will be posted, and simming will happen, blah, blah, blah, you are not new to this.
Every week-day, 1/3rd of a month of sims are posted (unless life gets in the way). So every 3 week days we are wrapping up a month of sims. At this point, Standings, Team Player Stats, and other interesting data of your team and the CHL are being posted.
You can follow along the CHL information to check in on how upcoming draftable players are doing against their peers.
6. Trade Deadline
This will happen. We typically have what we call a Soft-Trade-Deadline where the deadline is announced around the 60 Games Played mark and runs intermittently along with some simming to roughly 65-68 Games Played in the season. This allows teams to make deals and still see some small sample sizes of their changes as we near the hard deadline date.
7. Playoffs
Straight forward. First team in each division places 1/2 in the Conference. The rest of the Conference places 3-8. Play On.
8. Awards
The league as a whole will likely vote on these from a list of nominees selected by staff, or simmer, or some shit (but we don't like to talk about Clarence too much).
9. The Draft
The draft will consist of 2 rounds (though you will likely only use 1 round, to be honest). A list of "top prospects" will be posted from the year in which a player was drafted in real life. (i.e. 1991 Draft will consist of Lindros, Forsberg, etc). The list will include all eligible players, including undrafted players, as long as they made their NHL debut in that year (i.e. our 1991 draft will include undrafted stars who made their NHL debut in the 1991-92 NHL season).
10. Scouting with Bob McKenzie
Every year, teams get "3 UP and 3 DOWN" scouting reports. You select 3 players for your UP list and submit it to Bob and he will give you the projected overall of said player within 1 overall. In the same PM you request your 3 DOWN list, and Bob will give you those projected overalls within 2 overalls.
EXAMPLE:
3 UP:
Wayne Gretzky 98/99
Mario Lemieux 98/99
Tie Domie 77/78
3 DOWN:
Ty Conklin 77-79
Daniel Carcillo 75-77
Dallas Drake 85-87
11. Trades
The roster limit applies to the start of season. Once your limits are reached, your roster is in no way tied to your team, meaning you can make 2-for-1 trades, etc. Everything else about trades is business as usual. The only time roster limits come into play is the end of each pre-season to ensure you are compliant for the upcoming season.
There are only 2 people that weigh in on trades at any given moment - Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs . All other opinions are taken into consideration, but do not control the outcome of a trade.
If a trade is posted by two individuals and receives a ton of backlash from the league, those teams are encouraged and can revisit the deal and make adjustments without cause for concern on criticism from the admins. But if the admins determine it to be a fair trade, no matter the opinions cast by the league as a whole, the trade would still be approved and processed.
We actively try not to discourage any deal, unless we feel (based on our knowledge of upcoming draft ratings among other things) it is unfair for a given member. We believe everyone has the right to run their team the way they want to, and we recognize that the "equalization" of ratings-based-trades are not truly a reflection of EA Games, as much as we have tried to make it that way. It's different. We're different. We appreciate different.
12. Conditions on Trades
A conditioned pick cannot have a secondary condition applied to it in a subsequent trade.
If a team trades a pick that is conditional and does not maintain the pieces related to their condition, the condition is void. If the condition requires a form of compensation, a player valued at the draft pick's rank is required for compensation.
Example:
If Toronto trades 2005 1st to Edmonton with condition that it is protected as top pick, and replacement is Toronto's 2006 1st and Toronto later trades their 2006 1st, then Toronto has to either forfeit the original condition, or trade replacement level cost of the 2006 1st based on where it ranks in final standings, or the value of the next highest rated draft position not part of the protection, in this case would be 2nd overall, at the discretion of the team acquiring the conditioned pick, or offer a future pick as selected by the team acquiring team. This matter may be resolved by a third party (Mike/Justin).
13. Goaltenders Games Played
Every season, each goaltender on your roster will be featured in up to 5 Games Played (this does not include games where they stepped in after a goalie was pulled). If you carry a large roster of goaltenders, expect your starter to get the majority of starts, but that all back-ups will also get their playing time.
If a team has 1 back-up goaltender, expect him to get 8-12 starts while your starter gets between 68-72.
The Long-Term
Since we're always planning ahead, the aim here is to do 30-season cycles. So if we are lucky enough to have the activity and membership to run long enough, we'll run N90 until the 2021 season closes. After that time, we'll close out "Era 1" and reboot, probably grab some new teams, and start back up in 1990 again.
We will also be creating a panel to discuss all re-ratings for Era 2. This panel will include:
Buffalo Sabres Colorado Avalanche Ottawa Senators Edmonton Oilers Toronto Maple Leafs
