This was 100% a showing of depth scoring for the Blues to open this series. Once again, their defense limited the Hawks to just 14 shots through the final 40 minutes.
Brett Hull led his team to a sound victory in Game 1, and the Islanders shut down the top line, leaving Mario scoreless and down 1-0 in the series.
