I think whenever we go into the question of 'What If?' in professional sports, there are two sports that really trump them all when it comes to that question. The NHL is certainly one of them. And I definitely know that each of you have a few 'What If?' questions in your head. I'll list off a few that I think is consensus with us, and then I'll separate from my own kind of questions myself
Feel free to make your own hypotheses on each one, too. Even if you want to answer your own 'What If's';
- What if Eric Lindros and Peter Forsberg didn't have their careers limited to injuries? How much closer would they be to career records and possible accomplisments?
- What if we had a lockout-shortened 2004-05 season? Who would have been the frontrunners?
- What if Alexandre Daigle lived up to his potential? What do you think could have been for Daigle and the Senators in the mid-late 90s?
- What if Pavel Bure's knees didn't fail him? Would he be a Stanley Cup Champion somewhere?
- What if Craig Conroy's OT goal stood, and the Flames won the 2004 Stanley Cup?
- What would be of Gretzky's legacy if he stayed in Edmonton his whole career?
- What if Mario Lemieux never had Hodgkin's Lymphoma? How much closer would he be to career records? Would he have surpassed one of Gretzky's?
-What if Petr Buzek never got into his crash 3 weeks before the 1995 NHL Draft? Would he have been an undoubted All-Star by the time he IRL got the nod in 2000?
- What if Hakan Loob stayed with the Flames after the success of 1989? Would Calgary have a potential dynasty?
- What if Mike Millbury didn't make the bonehead moves he did in Long Island, and made a potential playoff perrenial team with the likes of Luongo, Chara, Berard, Palffy, Dumont, etc?
- What if Jan Caloun found his dominant scoring touch in the NHL, like he did in Switzerland and the IHL?
