So, call it a failed experiment, it happens. We tried the Bob McKenzie route, it was fun, but it's also a bit more work, not a lot, but it can get in the way, and then when a good argument on a player rating is presented it can screw up an entire draft.
Alas, here we are. And so, Justin and I chatted a bit, and chitted a lot, and chit-chatted about gum, but not specifically chiclets, and came up with this thought:
Let the League Decide.
So, feel free to discuss this openly here, cast a vote, let us know how you feel, there's a few ways we can do this.
OPTION A:
Every October/November, Bob McKenzie will post the prospect list for the upcoming draft.
This list will include a 3 overall range on every single player, keeping some mystery, but obviously making it easier for everyone to scout for themselves.
This allows the league to also chat openly about prospects and their potential ratings and how you feel they should be ranked, until the reveal at the draft. At that point, the rating is final.
OPTION B:
Every October/November, Bob McKenzie will post the prospect list for the upcoming draft.
This list will be the EXACT rating for each player. There is no mystery.
Everyone has the season to discuss these ratings, argue/debate them, reflect on your team's position in the standings to the potential exact pick you may receive, etc.
Mike and Justin may, at any time prior to the draft, adjust ratings UP OR DOWN based on the discussions, etc. Once the draft officially opens (BY US, NOT BY A MEMBER COMMENTING ON THE DRAFT) the rating is FINAL.
OPTION C:
Keep it all the same. Nothing is broken. Giguere-gate never happened.
OTHER THOUGHTS?
We already have our master ratings list for basically the duration of the site. We won't be rehauling the entire formula, because the formula is made specific for what exists and what will exist. So, these are the options that I think will make it a more league-inclusive format if we decide to change it up a bit on how we present the information.
After all, the whole point is to chat about these guys and remember our favorite players and their successes and even their failures. Being able to chat about their ratings means people research them and review their awards and points, etc. and could generate some great activity as we reflect on their careers.
