At this value, I would have thought Neely would have helped you a lot in Ryan Smyth negotiations.

K, so I just looked at this, and I know Kruze is trading for names, so I'm not going to reject it, but if we just go by ratings, this is a moronic trade for the Kings organization.
Kings lose their first line winger.
Kings gain a 7th D and a 4th line forward. And a draft pick who will never crack their line-up.

Def a stretch, an 83 is more a 9/10 F on a contender. Every D 80+ is a top 6 atm too. Plus the term helps

At this value, I would have thought Neely would have helped you a lot in Ryan Smyth negotiations. Don’t think anyone is trading Smyth for Neely. Anyway 2 is better than 1 and this eventually becomes 3 which if you haven’t experimented with 3 well you have a lot to learn. Plus Gelinas and Kasparaitis combined out scored Neely last year

If you are after names, as Kruze is, whatever makes him happy is fair. If you go by numbers, you keep the damned 90, or trade him for some firsts if necessary. You can draft an 83 and an 80 with normal picks. You don't need to move a 90-overall player to get them.

Weighing the value of an expiring contract has a lot to do with team needs and what is going the other way. If a team has all 83+ forwards on their team, then acquiring a bunch of 82s doesn't do anything to replace the player they lose.
A lot goes into consideration when evaluating a trade, the same way you would evaluate trade offers that go through.
In this case, to me, it's not a fine line rejectable trade, it's just Just OK, but I measure that specifically on what he is obtaining only. When you then look at his team, someone else of comparable or greater value has to sit for Kasparaitis to play. Gelinas plays on his 4th line. The 2nd round pick is garbage nothingness.
And that's not ripping into either team for making the trade, it's just evaluating the trade as it is. I hope people don't get emotional or frustrated with the review process, but we look at literally everything.
The argument one can make is "Kings can trade something else now to fit these pieces". Sure. But they could also just trade Neely 90 somewhere else for a better deal, but we know that this trade was far likely made on the basis of the names involved and not necessarily their overalls.

trade him for some firsts if necessary. Kasparitis was a first round pick in Season Two. Gelinas is the equivalent of a late first (I drafted an 83 F with 13 YL with my first this year in a fairly deep draft).

Kruze, can you trade me Sandstorm in a few seasons?
Sandman needs Sandstrom.
Make it happen Kruze. 1997 season. I'm counting on you.
Let's make a sandstorm happen in Minnesota.
