I assume he’s a leaf fan so 2 of these guys have to be there Glen Healy, Michael Hutchinson, JS Aubin have to be one of the other 2 Wrong. The shit rushmore of leafs goaltenders are as follows Jonathan bernier with nelson mandela behind him Andrew raycroft wearing a necklace of tuula rask holding a stanley cup Vesa toskala missing on a kick save Glen healy holding his resume for gm that the leafs wont accept |

I think most of you know that Curtis Joseph is on my personal Mount Rushmore, so it would be a tough sell for me to move him. Not impossible, but tough. Who are your other 3? My other 3 would have to be Sundin, Crosby and Jagr. |

Mats Sundin was asked to waive his NTC to go to Montreal instead of becoming a free agent. The deal would have been the rights to Sundin for Mikhail Grabovski. Sundin declined. Instead, he asked that they sign a new contract. The Leafs told him they absolutely will not be bringing him back and he should do the right thing. He got upset that they would not bring him back and basically went off the grid so they would leave him alone.
There was a lot of crap that went down with John Ferguson Jr. and the Silver Fox's second round with the team that pissed a lot of players off. Sundin was caught in that mix when they did everything they could to dismantle the Muskoka 5.

Sundin went to the muskoka 5 and told them all not to waive so they can make a run at the playoffs and Fletcher was the gm at that point. Then in the off-season they offered him a deal but he didn’t want to play. He was eventually talked into coming to the Canucks by the Sedins. Fletcher even said right before free agency if Sundin wants to come back for another year and wants a full no trade clause he got it. I think the Canucks trade was like Kesler and a 1st for him or Kesler and Burrows for him.

The haul would have been laughable it was solely Grabovski to a massive rival. We got him for a 2nd, so it'd be Sundin for a 2nd essentially. I don't believe it tbh. From what I remember, it was multiple firsts and a prospect from both PIT and DET. He could pick either team. Said no to both, he didn't believe in rentals. Then became one the next year. |

This whole account came specifically from a published book called Why the Leafs Suck and How to Fix It.
It was written by Al Strachan. He goes way in depth on a lot of the behind the scenes crap that went down with many players including during the Harold Ballard era. It was a fantastic read for anybody that is interested.
For a while I was pretty pissed off with how Sundin handled Toronto and refused to waive. And then after getting the whole story on how the leafs management and ownership went at him I realized how wrong I was. He deserved better.
