There was an interesting take on the No-GM teams. Instead of locking guys on those teams potentially forever, we drop those No-GM teams down to the last picks of the draft.
This would essentially improve the draft picks of all participating GMs by 4 selections in each draft.
It would be this:
As a reward for your participation and to not lock up superstars on open teams forever, all GM teams will always place higher than No-GM teams in the draft. There are 4 available teams, and they are listed in order of points in the standings. Those No-GM teams will occupy the final selections of each round. This improves all teams draft picks by 4 selections in each draft moving forward.
Should someone join before the draft begins, that No-GM's pick will be restored to its accurate draft spot.

I very much dislike this.

Yeah that won’t help those teams get selected either. I think we should just keep the order as is.

My arguments against:
1) makes those non-gmed teams even less desirable. NYI for instance are garbage, but they look way more desireable with Lindros or whomever on their team.
2) upsets the competitive balance. Given enough years, those non-gmed teams will be bottom feeders, but they won't get any better through the draft. All those non gm teams are in the same conference, giving the GMed teams in that conference a much easier ride to the playoffs (whether they want it or not).
3) A sudden change in draft pick value. I traded my picks cause they'll be late picks. If those picks get moved up a few spots, then they are slightly better assets then I had figured when I made those deals (I think I won those trades anyway, but still a factor). I would imagine the 6 other GMs who traded their picks would agree with me on this too.
4) there is a much better way to prevent good players from being stuck on non-gm teams: allow non-gm trades!

I agree with the no GM teams, but if we do that I dont think you should have to lose the trade with a no GM team. I think the majority of the site should just agree it's fair, or at least Leafs and Oilers should agree.

or at least Leafs and Oilers should agree. We don't. Or at least I don't.

This is not a discussion of No-GM trades. This is a discussion purely on the draft idea.

I like the rewarding people thing but if people don't want to be rewarded, that is their prerogative as well. It's not something I, as a member, feel that strongly about, so I will abstain from voting.
Something else to think about, that may have no real relevance here at all, is since we are not having expansion drafts, rosters will get deeper over time. So whereas the drafts used to spread out over 24-26 teams, we will still be sitting at 21, in all likelihood.

I don't think adding Lindros to the Islanders is going to help much at all. The idea of getting more GM's is a long shot and at best you get acouple new guys for a week or two and when they realize what they are getting into they won't be around for long. But any new GM can pick Hartford and be a goalie away from winning a cup and considering goalies rated 80 have carried the teams into the playoffs already

The idea is interesting but I feel opening up the no-GM teams to trades is the first and most important move to make.
