yeah i wouldn't say those drafts are necessarily shit. i think all drafts are weaker than 03 for obvious reasons, but those 3 are relatively close. ill discuss it with Oilers when we get closer to making a decision.

Milan Michalek 85 F 14 YR Loui Eriksson 84 F N/A YR Andrei Kostitsyn 82 F 9 YR Martin Lapointe 82 F 5 YR Tobias Enstrom 81 D 15 YR Patrick O'Sullivan 81 F 9 YR CHI 1st 2004 COL 2nd 2004 HAR 2nd 2005
For
Corey Perry 87 F N/A YR Kevin Bieksa 82 D 16 YR
Just analyzing this deal:
Michalek and Eriksson would play.
Kostitsyn, Lapointe, O'Sullivan would not crack the lineup for 6 more seasons, by then, Lapointe is retired and O'Sullivan and Kostitsyn would have 3 years remaining.
Enstrom would not play for almost 10 seasons.
So your deal, for what is "useable" for the Habs, is:
Michalek, Eriksson, 1st, two second round picks, for Perry and Bieksa.

This is basically 1 first line player, and an entire second/third line.

Milan Michalek 85 F 14 YR Loui Eriksson 84 F N/A YR CHI 1st 2004 HAR 1st 2005 COL 2nd 2004 HAR 2nd 2005 For Corey Perry 87 F N/A YR This is a gamble offer compared to the sure thing Ducks gave. The picks could be higher, but it's literally the defending cup champs 2 years removed from cup, and perennial challenger blackhawks plus a pair of middling to expected low 2nds. Based on the upcoming drafts, this deal is projected to be worse than Ducks offer. The only way it would match Ducks' offer is if the picks were high, and if they were somehow top 5 picks it would be a win for Habs. So it's a bit of a "bird in the hand" vs "hope and a prayer" on the basis of being satisfied by Eriksson and Michalek knowing the rest could be essentially non-roster players.

They have the depth to take that risk and could use those picks to flip them in deals for more upgrades. Hartford has Francis, Oates, Larionov and Stevens all retiring after the 2004 season.
