This is exactly what I’ve slowly fallen out of love with hockey. The NHL is the only major sport that changes their rulebook drastically from the regular season to the playoffs.
If you want to reward teams for having grit then call the games the same during the regular season so teams can at least prepare for the playoffs.
This year is a prime example of that with the Habs going to the finals and the Isles on the cusp of doing so as well. Each of their rosters are poor and that showed during the regular season but they’re able to play a more aggressive game in the playoffs that the more skilled teams aren’t prepared for.
If you want the game to be how it’s played in the playoffs then just do the same during the regular season, makes zero sense to have an entirely different rulebook between the regular season and playoffs.
