I have been toying with this idea for a season or two and after a good chat with Edmonton Oilers we came up with a good concept.
We are going to introduce the CHL next off-season.
The next available 3 drafts of players will be part of this league.
15, 16 and 17 year olds will compete. All players will be drafted after the conclusion of the 17th age season (they turn 18 for the start of the following season, just like our current prospects). Then they join the pros.
We will be using 3 years of draft picks to play 3 total seasons in juniors before draft eligible. This will give us the right amount of players to flesh out the teams and give them ample opportunity for ice-time.
It will be a hands off approach for simming. Not a lot will be posted, but all playoff games will be posted in full the same way we do our seasons.
Monthly standings/stats will be posted.
What Does This Mean For You?
You get more in-depth scouting. If you're contemplating between Player A and Player B you can actually see how they performed in the "minors" at the same exact build style of our current league.
Bob McKenzie gets to post his top prospects and use some actual stats to boost some players up the "possibility of picking off the board" stuff, all that jazz, and more stats for you to immerse yourselves with, which I think is fun to chat about.
FANTASY DRAFT
This is the big one. In order to launch these teams, we need a total of 8 people that are willing to participate.
Currently, there is Justin and Myself. So we are looking for 6 others to help participate in the team builds for year one and moving forward.
We are looking for people that have some good hockey knowledge, and are interested in doing this extra step with us.
Here is what it entails:
1. We will be creating a few threads this season that includes the list of all draftable players for the next three years.
2. We will be doing a serpentine draft for 8 total teams using all 140-180 players available across the next three drafts (skipping this year because they will be in the pros next season).
3. Every year, during the season, we will be conducting the draft of the following year to these teams for 2 rounds (a total of 16 players). The rest will be auto-applied evenly across the teams.
4. If you participate, you get to bring in YOUR team of choice of the CHL. If you have a hometown team you want represented or whatever, you will forever control said team and help monitor it's junior-draft with us moving forward.
