I have to agree with Cranker though. I get having fun and making fun trades but this destroys Hartford and sets up Leafs at the same time. Yes it’s Lidstrom and yes the return should be a lot for him but Whalers will only have Lidstrom after this trade. Lidstrom and Briere after this trade. Kind of hard to understand why they’re doing this.

Is it possible that he looked at the draft, looked at his team and said "I would prefer to have Lidstrom and Briere" and then after that didn't really care about the standings? San Jose SharksYou've heard their opinions, I'll give you until tomorrow morning if you feel they are right and want to back out of this deal.

Lidstrom has 16 YR. We were not any less horrible with Holik, Joseph, and Lehtinen. We dropped them and two picks. I say two, because let's face it. The 99 pick will probably be a top three pick, and Toronto Maple Leafs was generous to let me protect that pick. With that being said, we have someone to build around, and have Marty Turco in net for a decent amount of time. We're gonna keep getting good picks long after those three seasons, and it won't be long before Lidstrom is playing with some top tier prospects. The fact that we were so bad with the talent we had, only shows that trading those three players for Lidstrom wasn't a game changer for us yet, but soon we'll be a force to be reckoned with. Also, I think some people only have an issue with this trade because they didn't want to beat it, and want Lidstrom back on the market for them.

I’m going to make it very clear that I couldn’t care less about lidstrom being on the market since that is evidently an attack at me. I didn’t make an offer for him nor did I want to. I had your best interests in mind, we’ll see where all these picks end up and if your squad can crack 50 pts in the next 3 years. Still should probably clarify what happens with that 99 pick once it probably does become a top 3 pick. And honestly, it’s not that you weren’t any better, it’s that you clearly aren’t becoming a decent team here and you have zero options to now get better besides your one 97 pick. Plus turco literally isn’t a starting goalie. Anyways, it’s a very interesting strategy to say the least.

I think that was more of a shot at me since I've been very interested in Lidstrom for a while now. That being said, Austin I think you're looking at a pretty name and saying that he'll be a nice addition. Yes, it's Lidstrom but you legit don't have a team around him. You're gonna end up paying like Isles did for Richter. It'll hurt you more in the long run. And just so we're clear, I am not saying this because I want Lidstrom, Mike has made it very clear that he won't move his top guys my way. I am saying this because I think you're doing your team more harm than good and will end up regretting this trade like you have many times before.
