Can someone explain this to me from the Whalers stance? They're trading their best three players, 3/4 of their next 1sts, and they haven't had higher than 49 pts in the last three seasons.
To me the 98 pick is evidently one of Richards/Datsyuk/Lecavalier/St.Louis, the 99 pick, I mean at least it isn't a Sedin/Zetts, but what does it become? 00 you have Heater/Gaborik, little bit weaker, but still a good chance for it to land there.
I get it's Lidstrom, but his team is going to be Lidstrom, Briere, a 97 1st, EDM 99 1st, and a bunch of 83s. His G situation is the 2nd worse in the league (minus the DET situation now). I don't get how he makes the playoffs with that, in which he then just sewers himself moving forward.

Can someone please explain to me why I just traded away the best defenceman on the site for the rest of its existence? For what will inevitably be a collection of mid to high 80s ranked players?
I think I received an offer from about 10 teams on this site for that player. I don’t think it really matters whether or not you agree with what team is going for it if the team has a desire to go for it. Everyone had a fair shot.

I do not mean to pile on here but Buffalo's argument seems to imply that because Whalers only have X players he should not be allowed to acquire one of the best players on the site.
If I am reading that wrong let me know but if I am not that is a really bad precedent to set and an easy way to make rebuilding teams disinterested in the site.

Can everyone just stop with criticizing everyone's trades? This site is wacky, and fun, or it's supposed to be. You are allowed to have an opinion, hell, create a trash talk thread and beat down the Richter trade into oblivion, but bashing a trade because it's not something you would have done had you been managing a given team, and swaying people to not enjoy the site is shitty.
Already, this trade was modified to protect a pick.
Who cares what condition the Whalers are in? This is Nik fucking Lidstrom. If a low-ranking team wants to utilize their potential low-status for a few seasons to gain the most elite defenseman on the site, then that is a tool that they have that you don't.
You might have higher rated players, he has probability-higher ranked draft picks, and that is what I was looking for in dealing out these players. I want to explore future drafts more than I want to hang on to the best players on the site.
If you can't see that your criticisms are ruining other people's enjoyment, then that's on you.
