ok just reject this trade then. I will stick it out with what I have and get to try and rework my team hopefully in the 97 draft. I will stop arguing trades and stay quiet. Buffalo hasn't accepted it yet so just put this one out of its misery rejected final

Survey-poll. Not making a point, but I am curious. Over the next 5 seasons, how many top 3 overall picks do you guys think are better than Gary Roberts?

Sabres thought he was getting 2 first round picks AND Roberts in this trade? Did I read that right? XX - Former Devils - XX do you know that people think it's a bad trade because you're losing it, regardless of the potential additional pick?

I wasn't offering 2 first round picks so that doesn't really matter. But to get Boucher who to me is a top defenseman regardless of his rating. If I could have managed to get him and an 86 with the 9th pick I would have been fine with that. But yes I realized he was thinking 2 picks and at that point it was rejected and done. No Problem. A first line defenseman is great regardless of his rating.

Would have been cheaper with Brisebois, which was offered.

...Numeric ratings are fucking stupid and I still hope I live to see the day when sim siters get over random numbers and can just use production as a means to evaluate value.

No idea too lazy to look but Roberts was good but 90 good idk about that? Upon re-visiting Roberts and those around him, ratings-wise, I agree. But we decided before we started that pretty much no matter how badly we fucked up, we could not lower someone's overall once they were on a team or traded (for obvious reasons). Otherwise I would definitely start making a case for this. Must have been leafs fans who made that overall. Ratings committee member here. And Leafs fan from the Pre-Sundin and Post-Phaneuf eras. People being Leafs during the "This team is stupid" era did not help their overalls whatsoever. That said... ...Numeric ratings are fucking stupid

Also yes and no about the overalls.

Ooo this is fun 1995-2000 Better: Iginla, Chara, Thornton, Hossa, Datyuk, Sedin, Sedin, Zetterberg Kipprusof, Luongo, Lundqvist Maybe as good: Savard, Marleau, Lecavalier, Richards, Gaborik, Heatley Giguere, Miller

I'd put Lecavalier and Heatley ahead as well or tied with him. I have a soft spot for Vinny L and Heatley had real solid seasons. Not sure about Mikka. I'd rate his value slightly lower. *FTR, I'm working with the assumption that Roberts is more of an 89. The "90's" you reserve for the Iginla's and Lundqvist's on that list. Which brings up the point of how do you judge former NHL'ers and what do you weigh more when comparing them - Do we look at longevity (Marleau), do we look at peak years (Heatley) or do you look at peak years and not weigh injury issues (Lindros/Roberts), how many individual/team awards did they win (Hart trophy's and such and Stanley Cups) or how much they dominate during their time in the league (Gretzky vs Orr vs Conacher). Obviously, we're all going to put some thought into any of those categories but which do we value most? I almost tend to look at "peak years" and accolades such as Stanley Cups as being the biggest determining factor. Anyways, I went way overboard here. Quarantine life.
