Last year blues pick ended up being an 86 overall. The last pick in the 1st round was an 83

Yeah everybody knows that when picks are involved there are risks that are taken from both ends. Higher risk on Whalers side but there's still risk on Blues side too.

In S3 draft blues got WHALERS pick at 7th overall and got timonenn 86. the last 2 picks in draft are 83s. they were also 13 yr.
S2. last 2 picks are 80 and 81. 11yr one one of them.
S1. last 2 picks are 84 9yr and 82.
u tel me u wuld trade sydor an 85d which thers lik none on the site and an 85 frwrd to a team that has been winnin cups. knowin this year is bottom 2 pick. and next year we r changing the format? no 1 does this trad. excpt whalers cuz he doesnt know what hes doing i guess.

Clearly I've made a huge mistake and thought the two first round picks would be good no matter what. Forgot how low those OVRs could he at the end of the first round.

This is one of the worst trade I have ever seen considering StLouis's draft picks are worthless with him having the best team in league

I have a few. I probably won this trade, I'm not going to mess around about that, but my original offer was definitely fair, and Whalers wanted to expand it to this, and you can't fault a guy for saying yes. Actually it was almost worse but I added the '95 2nd to even it out a little more. I think people are undervaluing my 1st this year. Yeah it might be 20th overall, but its a pretty deep draft this year, and the guy who is scouted at 20 right now, Sheldon Souray, could be as good as Sydor on his own. I also think there have been way worse trades than this one, frankly. If it helps, San Jose Sharks , I will add 18 Jay Pandolfo 79 F 20 YR and 18 Shean Donovan 79 17 YR, who would have some decent value in free agency, and were 2nd round picks last year in a much deeper draft than other years. IDK about going as far as reversing the deal though.

Ignoring goalies, to get comparable (or better) replacements:
For Sydor: - 1994 must be a top 4 pick (Ed Jovanovki. Later, you have Ohlund and Tarnstrom who are downgrades with less YRs) - 1995 must be a top 3 pick (Bryan Berard with less YR. Later, you have Redden, who is a downgrade with comparable YR)
For Lehtinen - 1994 must be a top 7 pick. - 1995 must be a top 5 pick.
If we go strictly by projected draft order and predicted rankings, and include goalies (the 1994 draft is goalie-heavy), to replace either player, you need: - in 1994, a top 10 pick. Everything else is a downgrade. - in 1995, a top 9 pick. Everything else is a downgrade.
Lastly, this is if we believe Steen 87 with 2YR is worth an 81 and a 79 or lower player.
Since this is a second-team trade, my concern level with this trade is higher than it would be a typical "active GM & active GM" trade.

I guess I just assumed the 1sts would be worth equal value as Sydor and Lehtinen. If I have to go through with this trade, so be it. It'll be consequences of my own action, but if Blues wants to go through with his original offer to me, I'd be happy to do that too.

Keep Steen, or add Pandolfo and Donovan going to you, or add one of those players and my '96 2nd, would be three changes I would be ok with.

Marek Malik is better than all of these guys combined and if you don’t believe me check out his shootout goal. I’m too lazy to go and look for it and post it here. And also you’re welcome

People lose in trades, it happens. By this standard the Isles and Leafs trade should have been rejected 10 times over. Both teams accepted. This isn't even far off from a fair deal either.

In all honesty take out Sydor or Lehtinen and the 2nd and Malik and this is fair enough. At the beginning of the year everyone probably would have said yes because they may have not known how good the blues were or maybe everyone knew idk
